作者简介
许倬云，1930年生，江苏无锡人。匹兹堡大学历史系荣休讲座教授，台湾“中研院”院士。1962年获芝加哥大学博士学位，先后执教于台湾大学、匹兹堡大学，受聘为香港中文大学、夏威夷大学、杜克大学、香港科技大学、南京大学讲座教授。1986年当选美国人文学社荣誉会士，2004年获美国亚洲学会“杰出贡献奖”，2020年获“全球华人国学大典终身成就奖”，2023年获“影响世界华人终身成就大奖”。
许先生学贯中西，善于运用社会科学的理论和方法治史，研究领域集中于中国上古史、中国文化史、社会经济史及中西文化比较。学术代表作“古代中国三部曲”（《西周史》《形塑中国》《汉代农业》）等，另有大众史学“中国文化三部曲”（《万古江河》《说中国》《中国文化的精神》）及《经纬华夏》等数十种著作行世。

The author of A Little History of the United States, Mr. Xu Zhuoyun, has studied, worked and lived in the United States for more than 60 years. He combines his academic background of Eastern and Western historical studies with his personal experience in the American society to introduce nearly 300 years of American social, economic, cultural, political, military and other aspects in a very concise text.
The appendix includes a review of the history of Sino-American relations, Mr. Xu's advice on China's economic development, and a recommended bibliography of twelve books selected by Mr. Xu to help readers build a broad framework for understanding the realities of China and the world from history.

About the author
Xu Zhuoyun was born in 1930 in Wuxi, Jiangsu Province. Emeritus Professor of History, University of Pittsburgh, Academician, Academia Sinica, Taiwan. He received his Ph.D. from the University of Chicago in 1962, and has taught at Taiwan University and the University of Pittsburgh. He has been appointed as Chair professor at the Chinese University of Hong Kong, the University of Hawaii, Duke University, Hong Kong University of Science and Technology, and Nanjing University. He was elected an honorary Fellow of the American Society of Humanities in 1986, won the "Outstanding Contribution Award" of the Asian Society of America in 2004, the "Lifetime Achievement Award of the Global Chinese Studies Festival" in 2020, and the "Lifetime Achievement Award for Influencing Chinese in the World" in 2023.
Mr. Xu has a thorough knowledge of both Chinese and Western cultures, and is good at using social science theories and methods to govern history. His research fields focus on ancient Chinese history, Chinese cultural history, social and economic history, and the comparison of Chinese and Western cultures.
