　　《北京的六分仪》内容简介

　　六分仪，又叫纪限仪，主要用来测定60°以内任意两颗天体的角距离和日、月的角直径。康熙十二年（1673），时任钦天监监正、比利时传教士南怀仁根据丹麦天文学家第谷的设计，结合中国传统造型艺术铸造，陈设于京城观象台。1900年，八国联军入侵北京，它连同其他4件天文仪器被德军劫至柏林。直到一战结束，《凡尔赛和约》签订后，战败的德国将其归还中国。这些天文仪器，承载的不仅是西学东渐的中西交流史，也反映了近代中国在国际上的地位浮沉。

　　本书用通俗的方式介绍了丝绸之路形成以来中国与世界其他地方交往的历史。历史学家卫周安以有力的证据，打破了西方长期以来关于中国文明一成不变、与世界隔绝的刻板印象，向读者展示了一个开放、创新的中国。她认为，早在欧洲人来到东亚之前，中国就已经融入了一个复杂的国际交流网络。纵观历史，在贸易、宗教、知识和技术等方面，只要交往规则不是外部强加的，中国都积极地与世界互动。中国的许多历史经验是本土与外来因素相互作用的结果。贯穿中国历史的全球潮流，仍将奔腾不息。

　　卫周安（JoannaWaley-Cohen），现任上海纽约大学教务长、历史学联聘教授，美国纽约大学历史学JuliusSilver讲席教授。剑桥大学中国研究学学士（1974年）、硕士（1977年），耶鲁大学历史学博士（1987年），师从史景迁等著名学者。自1992年起在纽约大学教授与中国历史有关的课程。研究领域包括近代早期中国历史、中国与西方及中国以乾隆时期为代表的文化等。她曾获多项学术荣誉与奖项，包括美国学术团体协会档案与博士后学者奖、纽约大学戈达德与总统学者奖、耶鲁大学奥林军事与战略史学者奖等。主要著作包括《清代战争文化》（I.B.Tauris2006年版）、《北京的六分仪：中国历史中的全球潮流》（W.W.Norton1999年版）及《清朝中叶的流放：发配新疆，1758—1820》（耶鲁大学出版社1991年版）等。她目前的学术研究课题包括中国的帝国历史回望、19世纪中国人的生活方式和中国近现代饮食文化史。

　　王敬雅，中国政法大学人文学院副教授，中国人民大学清史所博士，故宫博物院博士后。主要研究方向为清代政治史、宫廷史，著有《绘画中的乾隆宫廷》，译有《补子》《中国女性史》。并于《清史研究》《史学月刊》《故宫博物院院刊》《历史档案》等期刊发表学术论文数十篇。

　　张歌，河北人。2011年入中国人民大学攻读世界中古史方向博士研究生，2014年毕业，获世界史博士学位，同年入山西大学，就职于历史文化学院历史系世界史教研室，中国非洲史学会会员。主要研究方向为西北非、西非中古近代早期史，具体内容涉及西非地区中古晚期至近代早期的政治制度变迁与伊斯兰化，近代早期西北非、西非宗教社会改革运动，近代早期西方人在西北非的商业、殖民活动。

A brief introduction to the content of the Sextant of Beijing

Sextant, also known as the chronograph, is mainly used to determine the angular distance of any two celestial bodies within 60° and the angular diameter of the sun and the moon. In the 12th year of Kangxi (1673), the Belgian missionary Nan Huairen, then the head of the Qintian Prison, cast according to the design of the Danish astronomer Tycho, combined with traditional Chinese plastic arts, and displayed in the capital observatory. In 1900, when the eight-nation Allied forces invaded Beijing, it and four other astronomical instruments were taken to Berlin by the German Army. At the end of World War I, after the signing of the Treaty of Versailles, the defeated Germany returned it to China. These astronomical instruments not only carry the history of the exchange between China and the West, but also reflect the rise and fall of modern China in the international status.

This book presents in a popular way the history of China's interactions with the rest of the world since the formation of the Silk Road. With powerful evidence, historian Wei Zhouan dispels long-held stereotypes in the West that Chinese civilization is static and isolated from the rest of the world, presenting readers with an open and innovative China. She argues that China was integrated into a complex network of international exchanges long before Europeans arrived in East Asia. Throughout history, China has actively interacted with the world in trade, religion, knowledge and technology, as long as the rules of engagement were not imposed from the outside. Much of China's historical experience is the result of the interaction of local and foreign factors. The global trend that runs through China's history will continue unabated.

About the author:

Joanne Waley-Cohen is provost and Associate Professor of History at New York University Shanghai and JuliusSilver Chair Professor of History at New York University. He received his B.S. (1974) and M.S. (1977) in Chinese Studies from the University of Cambridge, and his Ph.D. in history from Yale University (1987). He has taught courses on Chinese history at New York University since 1992. His research interests include early modern Chinese history, China and the West, and Chinese culture represented by the Qianlong period. She has received numerous academic honors and awards, including the American Association of Academic Societies Archivist and Postdoctoral Scholar Award, the Goddard and Presidential Scholar Award from New York University, and the Olin Scholar Award for Military and Strategic History from Yale University. His major books include The Culture of War in the Qing Dynasty (2006), The Sextant of Beijing: Global Currents in Chinese History (1999), and Exile in the Middle of the Qing Dynasty: Sent to Xinjiang, 1758-1820 (1991), Yale University Press. Her current academic research topics include China's imperial past, 19th century Chinese way of life, and the history of modern Chinese food culture.

About the Translator

Wang Jingya, Associate Professor, School of Humanities, China University of Political Science and Law, PhD, Institute of Qing History, Renmin University of China, postdoctoral fellow, Palace Museum. Her main research interests are political history and court history of the Qing Dynasty. She is the author of "Qianlong's Court in Painting" and the translator of "Buzi" and "History of Chinese Women". He also published dozens of academic papers in journals such as "Qing History Research", "Historical Monthly", "Palace Museum Journal" and "Historical Archives".

Zhang Ge, from Hebei Province. In 2011, he enrolled in Renmin University of China as a doctoral student in the field of World Medieval and ancient History. In 2014, he graduated with a doctorate in World history. In the same year, he entered Shanxi University and worked in the Teaching and Research Department of World History, School of History and Culture, and was a member of the Chinese African History Society. His research focuses on the Middle and early modern history of Northwest Africa and West Africa, including the political system changes and Islamization in West Africa from the late Middle Ages to the early modern period, the religious and social reform movements in Northwest Africa and West Africa in the early modern period, and the commercial and colonial activities of Westerners in Northwest Africa in the early modern period.
