A brief introduction to the Light of the Day
With its metaphorical paintings and detailed descriptions of the "great art" of refining the "philosopher's stone" out of base metals, the 16th-century "Light of the Day" is the most famous and exquisite of the masterpieces of alchemy. This book contains 22 beautifully illustrated copies of Harry MS3469, now in the British Library, with a wonderful translation of the original German text by occult philosophy expert Jocelyn Godwin.
Was "Light of the Day" written by the legendary Salomon Trismosin? Who actually created the original painting in The Light of the Day? What do the metaphorical and mysterious symbols in the illustrations represent? By comparing the many surviving codices, four scholars in the field of alchemy have come up with a fascinating new theory that solves these mysteries.
