　　古史辨运动是改变近代中国史学气候的一个晴天霹雳。本书把古史辨运动当作近代学术思想发展中一个历史现象来描述，主要探讨了运动何以会爆发、以什么样的风貌出现、带来什么影响等近代思想史问题。本书认为，导致该运动产生的最具关键性的因素是清季今文家的历史解释，而清末民初错综复杂的思想学术环境尤为重要，顾颉刚个人的“冲天一击”则是运动的触媒。此外，本书也考察了三个层面的问题：第一个层面，思想家们原来的想法到底是什么，这些想法与他们生活于其间的思想传统有什么样的关系；第二个层面，思想家们真正做到了什么；第三个层面，在历史发展的过程中，思想家们的实绩产生了什么影响，及后来的人怎样去理解其作为。

　　在描述历史现象时，本书对“心理事实”与“历史事实”加以分殊，认为不管合理或不合理的思想都可能在历史上造成巨大的影响，在行动者自己看来也都可能自认为掌握了最完整的理由，而且也正好符合着某种深刻的社会需求，并又造成了无可抹煞的历史事实。

　　作者简介

　　王汎森，台湾大学历史系、历史研究所毕业，美国普林斯顿大学博士。2004年当选“中研院”院士，2005年获选英国皇家历史学会会士。曾任“中研院”历史语言研究所所长、“中研院”副院长、代理院长，现任台湾综合大学系统主席。

　　专业领域是明清到近现代中国的思想史、文化史、学术史和史学史，近年来将研究触角延伸到中国的“新传统时代”，包括宋代以下理学思想的政治意涵等问题。著有《章太炎的思想》、《古史辨运动的兴起》、FuSsu-nien:ALifeinChineseHistoryandPolitics、《中国近代思想与学术的系谱》、《晚明清初思想十论》、《权力的毛细管作用：清代的思想、学术与心态》、《执拗的低音：一些历史思考方式的反思》、《思想是生活的一种方式：中国近代思想史的再思考》等书。

The ancient history debate movement was a thunderbolt that changed the climate of modern Chinese historiography. This book describes the ancient history debate movement as a historical phenomenon in the development of modern academic thought, and mainly discusses the history of modern thought such as why the movement broke out, what style it appeared in, and what influence it brought. This book believes that the most crucial factor leading to the emergence of the movement is the historical interpretation of the Qing Dynasty, and the complicated ideological and academic environment in the late Qing Dynasty and the early Republic of China is particularly important, and Gu Jiegang's personal "blow to the sky" is the catalyst of the movement. In addition, the book examines three levels of questions: first, what the thinkers originally thought, and how these ideas relate to the intellectual traditions in which they lived; The second level is what the thinkers have actually achieved; The third level is the impact of what thinkers have done in the course of history and how they have been understood by later generations.

In describing historical phenomena, the book distinguishes between "psychological facts" and "historical facts", arguing that ideas, whether rational or irrational, may have a great impact on history, and that the actors themselves may think that they have the most complete reasons, and that they also coincide with some profound social needs, and create historical facts that cannot be erased.

About the author

Wang Fansen is a graduate of the History Department and the Institute of History of Taiwan University. He received his PhD from Princeton University. He was elected an academician of the Chinese Academy of Research in 2004 and a Fellow of the Royal Historical Society in 2005. He was once the director of the Institute of History and Language of the "Research Academy", the vice president and acting president of the "Research Academy", and is currently the chairman of the Taiwan Comprehensive University system.

He specializes in the intellectual history, cultural history, academic history and historiography of China from Ming and Qing Dynasties to modern times. In recent years, he has extended his research to China's "new traditional era", including the political implications of neo-Confucianism in the Song Dynasty.
