作者简介

The First World War saw millions of male citizens voluntarily or conscripted into the armed forces, whose lives were cut short or turned upside down. Women citizens have lost loved ones and are struggling to support their families and lives while working hard in agriculture, government agencies and workshops. However, while the war wreaked havoc on the social, economic, and political levels, it also provoked revolutionary changes on the home front of the participating countries. About the author
SimonHeffer, born in 1960, studied English at the University of Cambridge and received a PhD in history from the University of Cambridge. He is now Professor of History at the University of Buckingham. Heffer has served in the London press for nearly 35 years, including as deputy editor of TheDailyTelegraph and TheSpectator, and is now a writer for TheDailyTelegraph and the SundayTelegraph.
