从小，他患了小儿麻痹症，被指定只能做一些静态的工作；

1956年，他出生于韩国；
1978年，他从台大商学系毕业，次年进入出版业，历任特约翻译、编辑、主编、总编辑等职；
1988年，任台湾时报出版公司总经理；
1996年，创立大块文化出版公司；
1997年，任台湾商务印务馆总经理兼总编辑；
2001年，创立“网络与书”；
现任大块文化出版公司董事长，“网络与书”发行人。
他是台湾最具个人魅力的出版人之一；
他引进了昆德拉、村上春树、卡尔维诺；
