五十多岁的卡拉·罗梅罗本以为自己会在一家灯具厂里工作一辈子，不料金融危机暴发，无数人失去工作，她也被迫重新谋求出路。
经朋友介绍，卡拉得知可以通过参加“大龄人员就业项目”获得帮助。于是，她来到咨询处，与就业顾问莉塞特展开了为期十二周的面谈。

多米尼加裔美国作家。1972年出生于美国纽约市华盛顿高地，1999年毕业于纽约大学。作品多聚焦家庭、性别、种族、移民和工人阶级等议题，其中，《让老天爷下咖啡吧》（LetItRainCoffee）入围2007年国际都柏林文学奖长名单；《多米尼加女孩》（Dominicana）入围2020年女性小说奖决选名单。她曾在《纽约时报》《拉丁杂志》等杂志上发表短篇小说和散文。
她还是文学与艺术期刊Aster(ix)的创始人和主编，也是匹兹堡大学的英语副教授。

Dominican-american writer. Born in 1972 in Washington Heights, New York City, USA, he graduated from New York University in 1999. Her works focus on issues such as family, gender, race, immigration and the working class, among which "Let God Drink Coffee" was shortlisted for the International Dublin Literary Award 2007; Dominicana has been shortlisted for the 2020 Women's Fiction Prize. She has published short stories and essays in magazines such as The New York Times and Latin Magazine.
She is also the founder and editor-in-chief of Aster(ix), a literary and arts journal, and an associate professor of English at the University of Pittsburgh.
