Stephen didn't tell anyone, but the shock violently affected his adult life as much as his denials: self-hatred, substance abuse, petty crime and horrible nightmares, worsened when he discovered that his abusers had continued to sexually abuse other boys at summer camps across states. It's only after a physical and mental breakdown that Stephen confronts the truth about his childhood and begins a difficult journey of recovery - and a decades-long fight to stop serial sexual abusers, seek justice, and hold those responsible for failing to protect his children accountable.

He consults and writes for a range of public interest organizations in the areas of civil rights and the environment. Since 1983, he has worked with the Natural Resources Defense Council to create campaigns that have mobilized millions of people in support of environmental protection. Stephen is honored to serve as an ambassador for UNICEF USA, a non-profit think tank that fights for children's civil rights. He lives in California with his wife and son, Susan.
