作者简介
诺贝特•埃利亚斯（NorbertElias,1897—1990），德裔社会学家，20世纪百科全书式人物，被誉为“21世纪的社会学家”。他出生在当时西里西亚地区的布雷斯劳（现称弗罗茨瓦夫，现属波兰）的一个犹太富商家庭，早年曾兼修医学与哲学，取得博士学位后转攻社会学，先后师从韦伯和曼海姆。纳粹上台后，他先是流亡巴黎，后赴英国继续学术研究。1939年，他的名著《文明的进程》首次出版。1940年，他曾由于德国人身份而被关入拘留营八个月时间。战后，他在英国、德国、荷兰等地的院校任教。他是反思性历史社会学家的代表，通过自我反思的追问来理解现代性，致力于细致的经验研究和长时段历史研究，代表作还有《宫廷社会》《个体的社会》《莫扎特的成败》《符号理论》等。

A brief introduction to the Loneliness of Death
At the age of 85, Norbert Elias, a great sociologist, explored death as a relatively underdiscussed topic in the study of "the process of civilization," describing death as an object covered by "civilization." In other words, death, cut off from people's social life by its cruelty, has also become an important part of the "civilization process" that has not yet developed a response. Death is as much a philosophical problem as a sociological one, and perhaps even an artistic/technical one - how to face death, how to die. From the above perspective, the author puts death together into this meditation on death.
About the author
NorbertElias (1897-1990) was a German sociologist, an encyclopedic figure of the 20th century, known as the "sociologist of the 21st century". Born into a wealthy Jewish merchant family in Breslau (now Wroclaw, part of present-day Poland) in what was then Silesia, he studied medicine and philosophy in his early years, earning a doctorate in sociology and studying under Weber and then Mannheim. After the Nazis came to power, he went into exile in Paris and then to England to continue his academic studies. In 1939, his famous book The Progress of Civilization was first published. In 1940, he was sent to an internment camp for eight months because he was a German. After the war, he taught at institutions in England, Germany, the Netherlands and elsewhere. He is the representative of the reflective historical sociologist, through self-reflective questioning to understand modernity, committed to meticulous empirical research and long-term historical research, including the court Society, the society of the individual, Mozart's success or failure, the Theory of signs and so on.
