作者简介：
杜赞奇（PrasenjitDuara），杜克大学东亚研究教授、芝加哥大学历史系荣休教授，曾任新加坡国立大学莱佛士人文讲席教授兼亚洲研究所所长（2008—2015）、美国亚洲研究学会主席（2019—2020）。早年就学于印度，后求学于美国哈佛大学并获历史学博士学位，师从著名汉学家孔飞力。著有《文化、权力与国家》《从民族国家拯救历史》《全球现代性的危机》等。

王福明，曾任职于中国社会科学院近代史研究所经济史研究室，主要研究领域为中国近代经济史、乡村社会与文化变迁等。
Culture, Power and the State
In the early 20th century, influenced by the western invasion, China's rural economy underwent a series of changes. At the same time, the state strove to expand and deepen its authority over rural society. The author deeply analyzes the changes of rural North China under the infiltration of political power from 1900 to 1942. Through detailed case studies, he shows the scenes of social, political and economic interweaving in rural North China under the background of the modernization of state power, and puts forward the theories of "cultural network of power" and "internal entanglement of state power", which have exerted extensive influence on the historical circles at home and abroad.
About the author:
PrasenjitDuara is Professor of East Asian Studies at Duke University and Emeritus Professor of History at the University of Chicago. He was the Raffles Professor of Humanities and Director of the Institute of Asian Studies at the National University of Singapore (2008-2015) and President of the American Society for Asian Studies (2019-2020). He studied in India at an early age and later received a doctorate in history from Harvard University in the United States, where he studied under the famous Sinologist Kong Feili. He is the author of Culture, Power, and the State, Saving History from the Nation State, and the Crisis of Global Modernity.
About the Translator
Wang Fuming used to work at the Research Office of Economic History, Institute of Modern History, Chinese Academy of Social Sciences. His research interests include modern Chinese economic history, rural society and cultural change.
