Introduction of works
After the end of World War I in 1918, the Weimar Republic was proclaimed in a revolution. From the very beginning, the Weimar Republic was surrounded by ominous signs. The experience of defeat and the tough terms of the Versailles Treaty left Germany with huge debts, and left-wing and right-wing extremism, inflation, and mass unemployment combined to erode trust in the Weimar Republic. In the early 1930s, collective disappointment eventually gave way to despair, as radical Nazi ideas that spread hope and promised a false way out gained popularity.
In this sweeping tome, Horst Muller traces daily life in Weimar Germany through the description of the two presidents of Weimar Germany, Albert and Hindenburg, as well as the narration of the important figures and activities of Weimar Germany, represented by Streizemann. The book also provides a detailed account of how the Nazis, through false promises and extreme measures, led to the collapse of the Weimar Republic. This book vividly depicts the political, social, economic, cultural and socio-cultural ideology of the Weimar Republic.
Horst Muller (1943 -), Ph.D., Professor, born in Wroclaw, Poland, studied history, philosophy and Germanology at the Universities of Gottingen and Berlin, and is now Professor of modern history at the University of Munich.
