本书依据晚清至民国的时间顺序，围绕铁路与火车所引起的时空体验和文化想象的主题，通过大量的史料钩沉和文本分析来解读现代性之于铁路的派生方式：时空概念的演变、意识形态的争论、（乘坐在开行的）火车中的身体感受，以及文学文本再现的人物主观经验等。
作者以铁路为方法、为契机、为理解中国现代性的钥匙，分析1840年至1937年铁路进入中国之后引发的冲击与适应，探讨铁路在晚清民国的具体历史情境中是如何与现代的想象与经验勾连在一起的。
作者简介
李思逸，香港中文大学文化及宗教研究系哲学博士，哈佛燕京学社访问学者；曾任教于香港不同高校，发表研究论文数篇，著有《铁路现代性：晚清至民国的时空体验与文化想象》《文学与电影十讲》。
Content introduction
Based on the time sequence from the late Qing Dynasty to the Republic of China, the book focuses on the railway and the spatio-temporal experience and cultural imagination caused by the train, and interprets the ways in which modernity derives from the railway through extensive historical data and text analysis: the evolution of the concept of space-time, ideological debates, physical sensations (riding on a train), and the subjective experience of characters represented in literary texts.
Taking railway as a method and an opportunity to understand the key of Chinese modernity, the author analyzes the impact and adaptation caused by the railway's entry into China from 1840 to 1937, and discusses how the railway was connected with modern imagination and experience in the specific historical situation of the late Qing Dynasty and the Republic of China.
About the author
Li Siyi, Ph.D., Department of Cultural and Religious Studies, The Chinese University of Hong Kong, Visiting Scholar, Harvard-Yenching Institute; He has taught in different universities in Hong Kong and published several research papers, including Railway Modernity: Time and Space Experience and Cultural Imagination from the Late Qing Dynasty to the Republic of China and Ten Lectures on Literature and Film.
