The Reason We Live is one of the most important works of the famous Austrian psychologist Victor Frankel, and it is the starting point for understanding his psychology. Victor Frankel's experience in a Nazi concentration camp led him to realize that the need for meaning in life was the main aspect of an individual's life, and so he developed the theory of meaning therapy. His revolutionary theory is outlined in the book Why We Live. He believes that today's society faces a state of "existential vacuum" and that people generally suffer from a "psychic neurosis." In response to this situation, he proposed meaning therapy and existential analysis. Professor of neurology and psychiatry, famous for the creation of "meaning therapy", has a profound influence on the psychological community, known as the third Vienna school of psychotherapy after Freud's psychoanalysis and Adler's individual psychology. During the Nazi period, his family was successively sent to the concentration camp, and his parents, wife and brother all died in the gas chamber, only he and his sister survived. In his pain, he began to search for the meaning of life. He once told a friend: "There must be a meaning to all that has happened, to all that suffering." So in this extremely difficult environment, he turned his eyes to meaning and wrote the famous works "The Reason we Live" and "The Meaning of Living Life."
