Empire and Revolution (Upper and lower)
Edmund Burke (January 1729 - July 1797) was an Irish politician, writer, orator, political theorist and philosopher. As a Whig member of the British House of Commons for many years, Burke lived through one of the most extraordinary periods in world history, deeply studying the importance of the British Empire in India, campaigning for reconciliation with the American colonies, and publicly criticizing national policy in three European wars. He also advocated reform in England and became a central figure in the debates of the French Revolution, and is regarded as the founder of Anglo-American conservatism. This biography brings Burke's main concerns to life, overturns the traditional image of him as anti-progressive, and helps us rethink Burke's intellectual legacy and the tumultuous times he played, as well as the crucial role he played.
About the author
Richard Burke is Professor of the history of Political thought and a Fellow of King's College, Cambridge. In 2012 he became a professor in the School of History at Queen Mary, University of London, and subsequently co-director of the Centre for the Study of the History of Political Thought. In 2018, he was elected Director of the School of the History of Political Thought at the University of Cambridge and a Fellow of the British Academy of Social Sciences. The other is the author of "the Irish peace: the battle of ideas (PeaceinlrelandTheWarofldeas), as well as the co-editor of" political judgment "(PoliticaJudgement).
