本书是比利时导演香特尔·阿克曼的唯一一部文字自传，以作者陪伴母亲度过她生命最后一段时光为主线，穿插讲述了作者对亲密关系的复杂体会、作为独立女性电影人的成长经历，以及犹太血统给家庭带来的伤痛回忆。
全书以自传式的笔法写成，口语化的文字直白冷峻，赤裸展现出平静日常下的刺与爱。书中亦附有多幅阿克曼的家庭照片与其所导演的电影画面，与阿克曼的自我剖析相呼应，构成影像与文字的深入联系。

香特尔·阿克曼（ChantalAkerman,1950-2015）
比利时战后最为杰出的女性导演，母亲为自奥斯维辛集中营生还的波兰犹太人。她18岁时已完成了她的第一部短片《我的城市》。她在26岁时拍摄的《让娜·迪尔曼》是二十世纪最优秀的几部女性主义电影之一，于2022年由英国电影杂志《视与听》票选为“影史最伟大电影第一名”。

My Mother Laughed
Belgian director Chantel Ackermann's only written autobiography follows the author through the last years of her life with her mother, interspersed with the author's complex experience of intimate relationships, growing up as an independent female filmmaker, and the painful memories of her Jewish heritage for her family.
The book is written in autobiographical style, and the colloquial words are plain and cold, naked to show the sting and love under the calm everyday. The book is also accompanied by a number of family photos of Ackermann and the film footage he directed, which echo with Ackermann's self-analysis, forming an in-depth connection between image and text.

Chantel Akerman (1950-2015)
Belgium's most prominent post-war female director, born to a Polish Jew who survived Auschwitz. She made her first short film, My City, when she was 18. Jeanne Dillman, which she made at the age of 26, is one of the best feminist films of the 20th century and was voted the "Greatest film of all Time" by British film magazine See & Hear in 2022.

Shi Yeting is an associate professor at the Institute of French Language and Culture, School of Foreign Languages, Zhejiang University, and a Doctor of Literature from Bordeaux, France. He is mainly engaged in cross-media research on contemporary French literature, literature, film and literature.
