李晓鹏，中国人民大学经济学博士，曾任哈佛大学肯尼迪政府学院研究员（ResearchFellow），著有《城市战略家》《中国崛起的经济学分析》等作品，擅长从经济和战略的视角探究历史问题。
Great Changes and Breakout
Since Jiaqing succeeded to the throne, the finance of the Qing Empire was in deficit year after year, the bureaucracy was increasingly corrupt, the people were suffering from poverty, and the White Lotus Religion uprising was huge. Since then, the glory of the imperial system has gradually dimmed, the Qing Empire from prosperity to decline, and China has gradually lagged behind the West. It was not until 1840 that the British Army entered the Pearl River Estuary, and China began its modern history of poverty and weakness.
However, the modern crisis was not sudden, but had already been lurking in the rule of the Qing Empire. About the author
Li Xiaopeng, PhD in economics from Renmin University of China, was a ResearchFellow at the Kennedy School of Government of Harvard University. He is the author of "Urban Strategist" and "Economic Analysis of China's Rise" and other works. He is good at exploring historical issues from the perspective of economy and strategy.
