  《味觉记忆·中国美食》中所画是老乔在2007年到2019年间在中国看到的、吃到的风味美食,以及令他印象深刻的用餐经历和饮食文化细节。书中没什么山珍海味、饕餮美食,都是些寻常可见、烟火味儿十足的地方风味,烤串、饺子、小龙虾、火锅,等等。在他眼中,要去吃饭的中国人是地球上最快乐的生物,这给他留下了深刻的印象,令他感慨:在中国,吃饭不只为了生存,饮食首先是一门生活的艺术!




  老乔,一个拥有中国名字的法国背包客,一位走在路上的生活观察家。17岁开始做背包客,艺术学院毕业那年,他一边徒步环游法国,一边画下沿途风光,由此开始了边走边画的职业生涯。他曾数十次来到中国,游历过很多中国城市,品尝过各色地方美食,对这个国家有着特殊的情节。

  他的每一次旅行都是轻装上阵,一个背包(他为它命名威尔森)承载全部的行李:必须的装备,不可缺少的纸笔。他返璞归真,疏离网络,用纸笔代替电子设备,勾勒一路风景、记录所见所闻所感,老派而有些艰苦。老乔对不同文化有着敏锐的洞察力,他带着好奇与包容感受他方世界的同与不同,感受旅途中的善意与温暖。毛姆说:“一个人能观察落叶、羞花,从细微处欣赏一切,生活就不能把他怎么样。”而老乔正是这样的人。

Old Joe's Wanderings Picture Book is a hand-drawn diary of French backpacker Old Joe's travel stories. Joe Sr. is an artist and started backpacking at the age of 17. He has been to many countries and seen various landscapes, but he never tires of seeing China. "China is always a place I want to go again," he said. Every trip to China brings him new discoveries and new understandings.

The paintings in "Taste Memory · Chinese Food" are the delicious food Lao Qiao saw and ate in China from 2007 to 2019, as well as the dining experience and food culture details that impressed him deeply. There are no delicacies or gourmet food in the book, but the usual, sparkle-filled regional flavors of skewers, dumplings, crayfish, hot pot, and so on. In his eyes, the Chinese who were going to eat were the happiest creatures on earth, which left a deep impression on him and made him feel: in China, eating is not only for survival, eating is first of all an art of life!

Lao Qiao, a French backpacker with a Chinese name, an observer of life on the road. He began backpacking at the age of 17, and when he graduated from art college, he trekked around France and painted the scenery along the way, which began his career of painting while walking. He has been to China dozens of times, visited many Chinese cities, tasted various regional cuisines, and has a special plot to the country.

On every trip he travels lightly, a backpack (which he named Wilson) carries all his luggage: the necessary equipment, the indispensable pen and paper. He returned to nature, separated from the Internet, paper and pen instead of electronic devices, outline the scenery along the way, record what he saw, heard and felt, old-school and some hard. Old Joe has a keen insight into different cultures, he feels the similarities and differences of other worlds with curiosity and tolerance, and feels the kindness and warmth of the journey. Maugham said: "A man who can observe the fallen leaves, the shy flowers, and appreciate everything from the smallest point of view, life can not do him." And old Joe was just that.
