作者简介
詹姆斯•乌登（JamesUdden），曾任职威斯康星大学麦迪逊分校，现为葛底斯堡学院电影研究副教授。长期研究台湾电影与亚洲电影。为完成本书，赴台居住多年，多次深入采访侯孝贤及其合作伙伴。
黄文杰，复旦大学传播学博士，副编审，曾在《电影艺术》、《北京电影学院学报》等学术期刊发表多篇电影论文。
No Man is an island
Hou Hsiao-hsien is a leading figure in Taiwan's new film movement and a world-renowned film master, whose important works include "Once upon a Childhood", "City of Sorrow", "Play Dream Life" and "Flower on the Sea". This book provides a complete and comprehensive account of his career, illustrating his unique achievements and the formation and evolution of his style. The author believes that Hou Hsiao-hsien's films reflect the unique historical and geographical situation of Taiwan and could only have been born in that environment. The book also examines the regional influence of Hou Hsiao-hsien's films on other Asian directors.
About the author
JamesUdden, formerly of the University of Wisconsin-Madison, is an associate professor of film studies at Gettysburg College. He has long studied Taiwanese and Asian films. In order to complete this book, he lived in Taiwan for many years and interviewed Hou Hsiao-hsien and his partners in depth many times.
Huang Wenjie, Ph.D., Communication Studies, Fudan University, associate editor, has published a number of film papers in academic journals such as Film Art and Journal of Beijing Film Academy.
