本书是著名华裔笑星黄西的第一本书，涉及他在中国的成长、在美国的经历以及从生化博士到脱口秀演员的道路。
黄西从小有礼貌但不是很听老师的话。中学老师说他考不上大学，后来因为不想让一位慈母般的老师失望而努力学习，考上吉林大学，并以第一名的成绩考入中科院研究生院。为了考GRE去美国留学，他把牛津词典背了8遍；在莱斯大学求学期间他经常在实验室里努力工作到凌晨一两点，有连续两年的时间只休过一个周末，最后拿到生化博士学位；后来工作期间，他白天去公司的做医药实验，晚上去俱乐部说相声；为了能到俱乐部演出，他在大雪天里站在俱乐部外面询问路过的人是否愿意进去听他讲相声……
这本书是一个生在中国的美籍华人讲述自己的奋斗经历，也有他对美国社会、美国政治，尤其是亚裔移民在美国的地位问题思考。黄西对亚裔在美国政治中的弱势地位有非常深的感受，在哈佛大学，他发现那里已经有很多华裔教授，他觉得美国不再需要多他一个华人教授，华人应该在其他领域有所突破。
作者简介
黄西，生于吉林省白山市河口公社，黄西从小有礼貌但不是很听老师的话。中学老师说他考不上大学，他上了大学后又在美国获生化博士学位并获生物领域专利。
他从2002年起登台表演美式单口相声。2009年成为第一个在美国的莱特曼秀表演单口相声的亚洲人并一炮而红。2010年在美国记者年会上领衔表演并调侃副总统拜登。这是美国相声界及喜剧界罕见的荣誉。之后又参加全美喜剧节并获相声比赛冠军。

About the author
Born in Hekou Commune, Baishan City, Jilin Province, Wong was polite but did not listen to his teachers. His high school teacher said he would not be able to go to college, but he went on to get a doctorate in biochemistry in the United States and a patent in the biological field.
He has been performing American stand-up since 2002. In 2009, he became the first Asian to perform stand-up on the Letterman Show in the United States. In 2010, she headlined the annual meeting of American Journalists and made fun of Vice President Biden. This is a rare honor in the world of cross talk and comedy. He later participated in the National Comedy Festival and won the crosstalk competition.
