“边界”在某种意义上是实际的建筑，既是真实的障碍，又是展示权力范围的地方……专业知识的形态所种多样，有的藏在头脑里，有的刻在双手上，有的以手工制品形式，有的在文本之中。在美国，专业知识影响着签证、出口管制和防扩散政策；在阿尔及利亚，专业知识促进了殖民定居者的柑橘生产；在越南，专业知识促进了三角洲的开发；在印度，专业知识改变了农业生产模式……
本书以知识为对象，聚焦各个地点之间的“知识”流动，探究人员、观点以及事物跨跃“边界”时所需的种种条件，展示了知识并不是畅通无阻地从发达国家流向其他国家，而是发达国家为了维护科学技术上的领先地位、经济上的有利优势和国际政治上的霸权，以国家安全的名义，对知识及科学家、技术人员等知识体的跨国流动，设置各种各样的障碍。
作者简介
约翰·克里格（JohnKrige），亚特兰大佐治亚理工学院历史与社会学学院克兰兹伯格讲习教授。主要研究技术社会史、现代全球史。著有《知识共享塑造欧洲：美国的技术协作与防扩散》（SharingKnowledgeShapingEurope：USTechnologicalCollaborationandNonproliferation）、《战后美国的知识管制与国家安全》（KnowledgeRegulationandNationealSecurityinPostwarAmerica）等。
魏洪钟，复旦大学哲学学院教授、中国自然辩证法研究会会员。主要研究科学哲学、科学技术与社会、政治哲学。著有《科学实在论导论》《细推物理须行乐——李政道的科学风采》等，译有《强制、资本和欧洲国家（公元990—1992年）》《民主》《托马斯•库恩》等。
How Knowledge Flows How does science and technology cross "borders"?
"Borders" are in a sense actual buildings, both real barriers and places where the scope of power is demonstrated... Expertise comes in many forms, some hidden in the mind, some engraved on the hands, some in artifacts, and some in texts. In the US, expertise influences visa, export control and nonproliferation policies; In Algeria, expertise facilitated citrus production by colonial settlers; In Vietnam, expertise has facilitated the development of deltas; In India, expertise has transformed agricultural production...
This book focuses on the flow of "knowledge" between places, exploring the conditions required for people, ideas, and things to cross "borders," showing that knowledge does not flow unimpeded from developed countries to other countries, but rather that developed countries maintain their scientific and technological leadership, economic advantages, and international political hegemony. In the name of national security, various obstacles have been placed on the cross-border flow of knowledge, scientists, technicians and other knowledge bodies.
About the author
JohnKrige is the Kranzberg Endowed Professor in the School of History and Sociology, Georgia Institute of Technology, Atlanta. His research focuses on social history of technology and modern global history. The author of "the knowledge sharing model in Europe: the technical collaboration and proliferation in the United States" (SharingKnowledgeShapingEurope: USTechnologicalCollaborationandNonproliferation), the postwar American knowledge control and national security "(KnowledgeRegulationandNationealSecurityinPostwarAmeric a) etc.
Wei Hongzhong is a professor at the School of Philosophy, Fudan University and a member of the Chinese Society of Dialectics of Nature. His research focuses on philosophy of science, science and technology, and social and political philosophy. He is the author of "Introduction to Scientific Realism", "Elaborating Physics Must Have Fun - Li Zhengdao's Scientific Style", and translated "Coercion, Capital and European Countries (AD 990-1992)", "Democracy", "Thomas Kuhn" and so on.
