"The Road to Power" 【 Content Introduction 】

This book focuses on the whole process of the Suffragettes (dominated by the activities of the women's social and political Union) fighting for the right to vote in Britain at the end of the 19th century, especially from the beginning of the 20th century to the "First World War", and the entanglement struggle with various parties, parliaments and officials, and the call to the masses. From interrupting speeches and delegations to petitioning, to hunger strikes, smashing Windows, burning mailboxes, burning abandoned houses, destroying paintings and even committing suicide at a racetrack. As a benchmark figure, Emmeline Pankhurst, through her own narrative, supplemented by precious historical photos, will present this magnificent picture in front of us, and the courage and determination of the suffragettes appear on the paper.

Emmeline Pankhurst devoted her life to the struggle for women's suffrage, and the purpose of this book, as the author puts it, is to "give the world a concise account of the causes and consequences of the British women's revolution" "so that future readers can more clearly feel the hardship of the battle, the risk of death, and the unprecedented and unimaginable courage and fighting power of women." Having learned the joy of battle, they shed all fear and continued to fight until they crossed the gates of death, not flinching a single step along the way." The significance of this biography has gone beyond a personal statement to become a passionate record of the thrilling battle for suffrage.

【 About the author 】

EmmelinePankhurst (1858-1928)

At the beginning of the 20th century, she set off a women's suffrage movement unique in British history, and her ideas determined the direction of this movement.

In 1999, Time magazine named her one of the 100 most important people of the 20th century, saying she "shaped the idea of women in our time and set society on a new paradigm from which there is no turning back."

July 15 is celebrated in the United Kingdom as Emmeline Pankhurst Day in honor of the woman who made important contributions to women's suffrage.
