全书收入致钱锺书、杨绛夫妇的信函277封，以及钱、杨二位先生的若干复函。这些信函始自1946年，至2014年止，多集中于二十世纪八九十年代。
信函作者包括二位先生的至亲好友、学者同人，乃至译者、读者逾90人。信中的一些内容不仅可补罅年谱、别传的失载，也为读者认识钱、杨二位先生的多种人生向度提供了弥足珍贵的第一手材料。
本书所收信函呈现了钱锺书和杨绛二位先生的部分工作、生活、心境、交往、论学状况，既是时代的记录，也见证了学人之间的友情和思想共鸣，于学术史当有一定的史料价值。
整理者吴学昭添加了详细的注释，介绍相关人物，交代相关事件，英法文信也逐一翻译，使读者阅读起来往往收获信函之外的新知。
作者简介
吴学昭，1929年生于北京，长于上海，燕京大学毕业。曾任《中国儿童》主编；《中国少年报》副秘书长，负责编辑事务；新华社、人民日报社驻外记者；《人民日报》国际评论员。久任国家机关工作人员。学者、教育家吴宓先生的女儿。钱锺书、杨绛遗嘱执行人。

The book contains 277 letters addressed to Qian Zhongshu, Yang Jiang and his wife, as well as several replies from Qian and Yang. The letters date from 1946 to 2014 and mostly focus on the 1980s and 1990s.
The letter writers include the two gentlemen's close friends, scholars, and even translators, readers more than 90 people. Some of the contents of the letter can not only make up for the loss of the annals and other biographies, but also provide valuable first-hand materials for readers to understand the various life directions of Mr. Qian and Mr. Yang.
The letters received in this book show some of the work, life, mood, communication and academic status of Mr. Qian Zhongshu and Mr. Yang Jiang, which is not only a record of The Times, but also a witness to the friendship and ideological resonance among scholars, and should have certain historical value in the academic history.

About the author
Wu Xuezhao, born in 1929 in Beijing, grew up in Shanghai, graduated from Yenching University. Former chief editor of China Children; Deputy Secretary General of China Youth Daily, responsible for editorial affairs; Foreign correspondent of Xinhua News Agency and People's Daily; People's Daily International commentator. He has been a member of state organs for a long time. The daughter of scholar and educator Mr. Mi Wu. Qian Zhongshu, Yang Jiang executor.
