本书从家庭宗族、社会结构、等级制度、人口变迁，到衣食住行、婚嫁丧葬、时令节日、文化娱乐、社会救济，走进清代人的日常生活。
冠服、发型等生活小事，似乎无关历史发展的宏旨，而清代，尤其是清初的历史证明了它在历史进程中的重大作用。而尊祖敬宗、男尊女卑、主仆名分等传统习惯和意识，紧紧地束缚人们的思想而难于改变，致使清代社会只能缓慢地向前发展。事实说明，社会生活与政治生活融为一体，共同起作用，既体现历史的面貌，又是历史演变的动因。

冯尔康，南开大学荣誉教授，中国社会史学会创会会长，主要研究领域为清史、中国社会史，著有《雍正传》《清史史料学》等，主编有《中国社会结构的演变》等。
常建华，南开大学教授，南开大学中国社会史研究中心主任，兼任中国社会史学会会长，主要研究领域为中国社会史、明清史。著有《日常生活的历史学》《社会生活的历史学》等。

About the author
Feng Erkang, honorary professor of Nankai University, is the founding president of the Chinese Society of Social History. His main research fields are Qing history and Chinese social history. He is the author of the Biography of Yongzheng, Historical Materials of Qing History, and the editor of the Evolution of Chinese Social Structure.
Chang Jianhua is a professor at Nankai University, director of the Research Center for Chinese Social History of Nankai University, and president of the Chinese Social History Association. His main research fields are Chinese social history and the history of the Ming and Qing Dynasties. He is the author of the History of Everyday Life and the History of Social Life.
