Brief introduction of Knowledge Overload
Mexican writer Zaid wrote, "Mankind publishes a book every thirty seconds." How can the average reader keep up with the latest releases? Not to mention the numerous classics dating back to Homer and Plato. Even for the greatest bibliophiles, the prospect of publication is daunting. What's more, Zaid argues, people seem more interested in writing books than reading them (81 percent of Americans believe they should write books, according to a recent survey). Despite his frustration with the state of affairs, Zeid said one of the industry's strengths is its diversity. In the publishing industry, a book that attracts only a few thousand readers is likely to be published, whereas the commercial film industry and other mass media must operate almost entirely on a budget scale. This is a thought-provoking book, a meditation and observation on the development of publishing and literature in the early 21st century.
