《唐长孺回忆录》内容简介

　　唐长孺先生（1911－1994）是著名历史学家，在魏晋南北朝隋唐史研究领域，是继陈寅恪之后公认的祭酒。唐先生生于江苏苏州吴江平望镇，祖母和母亲都是今浙江湖州南浔人，从舅乃近代著名藏书家、刻书家刘承干，嘉业堂藏书楼主人。回忆录记叙了南浔顾、朱、刘、张、庞、邢（南浔四象）、邱、梅、蒋，以及吴江殷氏、凌氏，嘉兴王氏等望族的兴衰史，涉及刘承干、张石铭、张静江、庞元济、蒋汝藻、殷兆镛、王欣夫等众多政治文化名人，并记叙了南浔与平望的园林、寺庙、学校、方言、风俗、米业、戏曲电影等，尤致意于人物、文化等随家国命运的沉浮。

　　唐先生1942年从上海赴湖南蓝田国立师范学院，1944年从蓝田赴四川乐山武汉大学，回忆录详细记述了入湘、入蜀的一路经历、见闻，以及与诸多学者的交往，如吕思勉、钱基博、马宗霍、吴其昌、钟泰、李剑农、彭铎、蒋礼鸿、朱东润、王仲荦、黄焯，等等。另如治魏晋南朝隋唐经济，乃受李剑农的启迪，在重庆初次与王仲荦相识，钱钟书《围城》中的“三闾大学”等，均在回忆录中述及。

　　唐先生晚年右眼失明，左眼视力经矫正亦仅0.2度，在学生的协助下完成《魏晋南北朝隋唐史三论》后，开始奋笔独力撰写回忆录，虽仅至入蜀而止，但内容生动丰富，文笔简净，以史家的眼光，呈现了近代江南大族随家国命运沉浮和江南人文民俗变迁的一幅长卷，同时也是抗战时期学人辗转播迁、孜孜不懈为文化存亡继绝的社会缩影。

　　唐先生由于视力所限，手稿极其难识，王素先生做了细致的整理和简注，使这份珍贵文献得以粲然可读。此次出版，并将唐先生全文手稿影印，以与天下读者共参酌。

A brief introduction to the Memoirs of Tang Changru

Tang Changru (1911-1994) is a famous historian, in the field of Wei, Jin, Southern and Northern Dynasties Sui and Tang history research, is recognized after Chen Yinke sacrifice wine. Mr. Tang was born in Pingwang Town, Wujiang, Suzhou, Jiangsu Province. His grandmother and mother were both from Nanxun, Huzhou, Zhejiang Province. His uncle was Liu Chenggan, a famous modern book collector and book engrist, and the owner of Jiayetang Library. The memoir recounts the rise and fall of Nanxun Gu, Zhu, Liu, Zhang, Pang, Xing (Nanxun Four Xiang), Qiu, Mei, Jiang, as well as the Yin, Ling, and Jiaxing Wang families of Wujiang, involving Liu Chengqian, Zhang Shiming, Zhang Jingjiang, Pang Yuanji, Jiang Ruzao, Yin Zhaoyong, Wang Xinfu and many other political and cultural celebrities. It also describes the gardens, temples, schools, dialects, customs, rice industry, operas and movies of Nanxun and Pingwang, especially paying tribute to the ups and downs of characters and culture along with the fate of the family and country.

Mr. Tang went from Shanghai to Lantian National Normal College in Hunan Province in 1942, and from Lantian to Wuhan University in Leshan, Sichuan Province in 1944. His memoirs describe in detail his experiences, observations and contacts with many scholars, such as Lv Simian, Qian Jibo, Ma Zonghuo, Wu Qichang, Zhong Tai, Li Jiannong, Peng Duo, Jiang Lihong, Zhu Donggrun, Wang Zhongluo, Huang Zhuo, and so on. Another example is the economy of the Wei, Jin, Southern Dynasties, Sui and Tang dynasties, which was inspired by Li Jiannong and first met Wang Zhongluo in Chongqing. Qian Zhongshu's "Sanlu University" in "Besieged City" is described in his memoirs.

In his later years, Mr. Tang was blind in his right eye, and his vision in his left eye was only 0.2 degrees after correction. With the help of his students, he completed "Three Treatises on the History of Wei, Jin, Southern and Northern Dynasties, Sui and Tang Dynasties" and began to write his memoirs on his own. Although he only ended in Shu, his memoirs were vivid and rich in content and simple in style. At the same time, it is also the social epitome of the scholars who worked tirelessly for the survival and destruction of culture during the Anti-Japanese War.

Mr. Tang's manuscript is extremely difficult to read due to his limited eyesight, and Mr. Wang Su has made careful arrangements and brief notes, which have kindly made this valuable document readable.
