Brief introduction of the Ancient Road

The Ancient Road is the final book in Cambridge scholar Robert MacFarlan's "Walking Literature trilogy".

The ancient paths, trodden by people day after day, are the way people leave their mark on the earth, building the most intimate and poetic relationship between human beings and the earth.

As a young man, Robert MacFarlan, eager to climb to the top and enter the unknown, is now more content with the old road - he follows in the footsteps of his ancestors, walking the ancient road on the chalk tops of England, crossing the coastal tide known as the "Road of Doom", sailing to the Bird Island in northwest Scotland, retracing the pilgrimage path of Palestine, Spain and the Himalayas... Explore the souls that wander the paths, the voices that echo, the stories and songs that circulate, trying to find a path to the past, only to find yourself transported back again and again to the present.

In the patience of one step after another, in the intense feeling of our feet touching the "fluff" of the earth, a new understanding arises: walking is an inward survey, and the path we travel through it subtly shapes us.
