  从食物的角度来理解历史,理解社会演进的脉络及历程。风云变幻,当下餐桌食材的背后还有更多过去和未来——这就是食物简史。

A Brief History of Food

This is a journey of food culture, which shows the achievements and progress of civilization. From prehistoric times to the present and then to the future, the author starts with the process of food culture and makes a subtle interpretation of multiple issues about human eating habits.

What did humans eat 10,000 years ago? What will people eat in the future a century from now? How did fire, farming and livestock come into being? What was on the emperor's table? And the Emperor of China? And the King of France? What do their people eat? Has the practice of eating human flesh really disappeared? What's the connection between sex and diet? When and how did the restaurant appear? Who invented pizza? Where do people eat insects? What's on the plutocrats' daily menu? Which country on Earth is the best eater? Will there be a food crisis when the total population exceeds 10 billion? Will we be eating with artificial intelligence tomorrow? Will eating still be a social activity? ...

Food represents an extremely important part of daily life. What we see on the table is not only what we eat and drink, but also the integration of the world's food cultures over the years, as well as the life trajectory of people on the entire earth. Food has been behind many major changes in human history. In this book, the author takes us through the lens of food to understand the history of human evolution. His concern is not how the food has changed, but what the food has changed. He tells the story of how hunger shaped civilization, and how food helped advance science and technology. It shows how many cultural, social and economic factors are involved when you sit down to eat.

To understand history from the perspective of food, to understand the context and course of social evolution. There's a lot more past and future behind what's on the table today - that's a brief history of food.
