Reconstructing the early History of the Khitan
The early historical reality of the Khitan is a triple filtered picture: the other image created by the Central Plains historical records based on the Chinese standard, the self-construction of the Khitan dynasty out of the will to power, and the linear tracing formed by the historians of later generations who combined the first two with their own opinions. The three layers overlap, and in what sense does the light and shadow ultimately reflect the truth of the past? Based on a critical analysis of the sources of relevant historical documents, this book penetrates through the gaps of authoritative classical texts, and delves layer by layer, trying to present the complex and diversified generation and evolution of historical narratives, and uncovers previously unknown historical situations and academic issues. This typical case is expected to be a new reflection on the research of the ancient national history.
