Introduction to Cyrus the Great
Cyrus the Great was the founder of the ancient Persian Empire. He started as a small chief in southwestern Iran, and after a series of victories, defeated three empires, namely the Media, Lydia and Babylon, unified most of the ancient Middle East, and established a great empire from India to the Mediterranean. After the conquest of Babylon, Cyrus turned to the northeast in order to subdue the nomads of Central Asia. As a result, most of the Persian army was killed, and Cyrus himself was killed on the battlefield.
