A brief introduction to the contents of "Nanguo Doxiu Shi"
The rise of the southern intellectuals in the middle of the Northern Song Dynasty is an important phenomenon in Chinese history. It marked the completion of the southward shift of Chinese cultural center of gravity and established the dominant position of the southeast region in modern China. However, the background of the formation of this major phenomenon is still lacking a comprehensive and systematic review. This book attempts to fill the gap in this research, and believes that, thanks to the relatively stable environment in the Jianghuai area during the Tang and Song dynasties and the ruling needs of the southern independent regimes, the cultural accumulation of the southeast scholars did not end with the fall of Li and Tang, but steadily accumulated until the early Song Dynasty. It is relying on this strong cultural base that the southeast scholars could eventually break through the Northern Song rulers' employment policy of "valuing the North and valuing the south" and become officials through the imperial examination in a large number, thus reversing the composition of the ruling group in the Song Dynasty.
