《石上众生》内容简介

　　本书从石窟创造者供养人的角度对巴蜀石窟重新解读。所谓供养人，是指提供资金、物品或劳力开凿石窟的人。本书分为初入、生莲、大佛、乱世、梵音、涅槃6个章节。作者寻访了大量四川、重庆荒野中的石窟，并对石窟进行分期，勾勒出不同时代的造像题材与风格，第一次将视角放到供养人上，揭示石窟供养人的希冀、哀伤、欢喜，往往会决定石窟的题材。作者通过对巴蜀石窟题记的解读与辨识，找寻出近百位供养人的故事，通过他们的故事，串联巴蜀石窟的脉络，还原其生活与时代。

　　四川石窟艺术的题材、艺术的变化与供养人的身份有直接关系。本书从历史文献和碑刻中对其进行梳理，通过对不同时代供养人身份、地位、情绪等方面的还原，勾勒出每个时代的风貌。

　　作者简介

　　萧易，1983年生于江苏扬州，毕业于四川大学中文系。《中国国家地理》《南方周末》等报刊专栏撰稿人，出版有《空山——寂静中的巴蜀佛窟》《知道——石窟里的中国道教》《影子之城——梁思成与1939/1941年的广汉》《寻蜀记：从考古看四川》等书。

　　萧易一直致力于对巴蜀地区考古遗址、石窟造像的研究整理，并陆续将自己的研究成果发表于《中国国家地理》《南方周末》等报刊，以专栏的方式连载。本书是萧易在探访巴蜀地区石窟时，从供养人（指因信仰某种宗教——在本书中专指佛教，通过提供资金、物品或劳力，制作圣像、开凿石窟、修建宗教场所等形式弘扬教义的虔诚信徒）这一特殊的视角，对四川地区隋唐至五代及宋和明代造像历史的介绍。作者不但从大量调查记录中梳理出不同时代造像的风格、特点等并用通俗易懂的方式表述出来，还从不同供养人的人生经历中管窥人的命运和时代的沉浮，延续了《寻蜀记》《知·道》等作品的风格，具有较强的可读性。

　　特别值得一提的是，关于巴蜀石窟，作者之前还出版过《空山——静寂中的巴蜀佛窟》（2012）、《知·道石窟里的中国道教》（2018）两种图书。从已经出版和即将出版的著作看，作者十多年来几乎实地探访了巴蜀地区所有存在石窟、摩崖造像的地方，采集了大量的第一手资料。三本关于巴蜀石窟的图书，凝结了作者大量的心血，作者对巴蜀地区石窟的探索，相比德国建筑师柏石曼、法国探险家色伽兰，营造学社梁思成、刘敦桢等同仁、杨家骆、顾颉刚、马衡率领的考察队，可以说毫不逊色。

Introduction to the content of Sentient Beings on the Stone

This book reinterprets the Bashu Grottoes from the perspective of the grottoes' creators. A donor is a person who provides money, goods or labor to dig a grotto. This book is divided into six chapters: First entry, birth of lotus, Great Buddha, troubled world, Bravado sound and Nirvana. The author visited a large number of grottoes in the wilderness of Sichuan and Chongqing, and divided the grottoes into stages to outline the theme and style of statues in different times. For the first time, he put the perspective on the donors, revealing the hopes, sorrows and joys of the grottoes' donors, which often determine the themes of the grottoes. Through the interpretation and identification of the inscriptions of the Bashu grottoes, the author finds out the stories of nearly a hundred donors, and through their stories, connects the vein of the Bashu grottoes, restoring their life and times.

The theme of Sichuan grottoes art and the change of art are directly related to the identity of the donors. This book combs it from historical documents and inscriptions, and Outlines the style of each era through the restoration of the identity, status, emotions and other aspects of the donors in different times.

About the author

Xiao Yi, born in 1983 in Yangzhou, Jiangsu Province, graduated from the Chinese Department of Sichuan University. He is a columnist of China National Geographic, Southern Weekend and other newspapers, and has published books such as Empty Mountain -- The Silent Bashu Grottoes, Knowing -- The Chinese Taoism in the Grottoes, The City of Shadows -- Liang Sicheng and the Guanghan Dynasty in 1939-1941, and The Search for Shu: Sichuan from the perspective of Archaeology.

Xiao Yi has been committed to the study and sorting of archaeological sites and grottoes in Bashu area, and has successively published his research results in "China National Geographic", "Southern Weekend" and other newspapers and periodicals, as a series of columns. This book is an introduction to the history of statue making in the Sui, Tang, and Ming Dynasties in Sichuan from the special perspective of the donors (refers to the devout believers who, because of their belief in a certain religion, specifically Buddhism in this book, by providing funds, goods or labor, making ICONS, digging caves, building religious sites, etc.). The author not only sorted out the styles and characteristics of statues of different times from a large number of investigation records and expressed them in a simple and understandable way, but also looked into the fate of people and the ups and downs of times from the life experiences of different donors, which continued the style of "Searching for Shu" and "Knowledge · Tao" and other works, with strong readability.

In particular, regarding the Bashu Grottoes, the author has previously published two books, The Empty Mountain - The Bashu Grottoes in Silence (2012) and Chinese Taoism in the Grottoes of Knowledge and Tao (2018). From the published and forthcoming works, the author has visited almost all the places where there are grottoes and cliff statues in the Bashu area for more than ten years, collecting a lot of first-hand information. The three books on the Bashu grottoes are a great effort of the author. The author's exploration of the grottoes in the Bashu area can be said to be no less impressive than those led by the German architect Baishman, the French explorer Segalan, Liang Sicheng, Liu Dunzhen and other colleagues of the Construction Society, Yang Jialuo, Gu Jiegang and Ma Heng.
