1963年出生于北海道。1994年凭《姑获鸟之夏》一作出道，1996年《魍魉之匣》获得日本推理作家协会奖。包含这两部作品的“百鬼夜行系列”具备超高人气。1997年《嗤笑伊右卫门》荣获泉镜花文学奖，2003年《偷窥者小平次》获山本周五郎奖。2004年，怪奇时代小说《后巷说百物语》荣获直木奖，其系列后续作品《西巷说百物语》则于2011年获柴田炼三郎奖。2016年，其本人荣获远野文化奖。
A brief introduction to the Wolf to Be Avoided

He was born in Hokkaido in 1963. In 1994, he wrote the book "The Summer of the Birds", and in 1996, "The Box of Monsters" won the prize of the Mystery Writers Association of Japan. The "Ghosts in the Night" series, which includes these two works, is extremely popular. In 1997, he won the Izumi Izumi Prize for Literature, and in 2003, he won the Yamashiro Prize for his book The Peeping Hiroji. In 2004, the strange period novel Back Alley Sayonori won the Naoki Award, and its follow-up in the series, West Alley Sayonori, won the Shibata Renzaburo Award in 2011. In 2016, he was awarded the Ono Cultural Award.
